Need more from this author, please!

Too funny! This book is well worth your afternoon or evening. Two women grow up in the same school situation, go off to the same college together and there grow into hate. One is a girly-girl and the other is the ultimate tomboy. They mingle with a sorority crowd and break up their friendship over a guy. As adults, they are slammed back together in a rich friend's drama and set off on a road trip to try to catch a swindling, philandering husband who has been thought to have perished in a plane crash. The dialogue is ultra hip (can we still use that word?), the scenes are hilarious and I truly thank the author and Penguin's First to Read program for a complimentary copy. This would be a terrific movie screenplay or series....hello Hollywood!

Loved it! I couldn't put it down!

Jacqueline "Jack" Jordan and Kitty Carricoe had the potential once to be best friends. Roommates in College they were opposites, but they seemed to balance one another out in the ways that mattered. When Kitty told Jack something that was hard for her to hear, and even harder for her to admit to, their friendship disinigrated into a series of petty pranks designed to hurt the other person as much as possible. Now adults, Jack and Kitty couldn't be more opposite. Kitty is the loving wife to a dentist and the mother to three children, and Jack is a journalist at the front line of danger. The only thing that they have in common is their friendship with Sarabeth Chandler, and she is the only person who can bring them together.

The two women are forced together when they receive word that Sarabeth's husband Trip has perished in a horrible plane crash. Both Jack and Kitty find the crash suspicious, especially now that the news has broken that Trip has "lost" billions of dollars. Kitty and Jack reluctantly embark on a bizarre road trip that will either save the day or kill them both.

I'm a huge Jen Lancaster fangirl and I eagerly read everything that she writes. I have to say, though, that The Best of Enemies was my favourite fictional release of hers to date! Her memoirs have a chatty, fun, hilarious vibe but with her last two fictional releases I felt that Lancaster was finding her fictional author's voice. I'm happy to say that she has definitely found it! Lancaster's fictional writing voice has sharpened and matured and The Best of Enemies was an enjoyable, fast-paced read!

I enjoyed the character development the most. When we begin reading the book we are given an initial impression of both Kitty and Jack. Kitty comes off as being sheltered and shallow, while Jack comes across as being pretentious. I didn't particularly care for either character at first, but as I got to know them both while reading the book I liked them each more and more. Lancaster does a spectacular job of peeling back the layers of each character to reveal who they really are. We, as readers, can't help but like what we find.

The mysterious aspect of the book was new to Lancaster as well, and I can say that I thought that she did a great job! Although you could still predict the twists and turns I thought that the way that the book was laid out was really fun and it made me eager to read on. I enjoyed that the book wasn't all about just one thing, but it covered several different topics, including fidelity, child abandonment, parenting and finding ones place in life.

I loved The Best of Enemies and I just can't recommend it enough. Lancaster's voice is fresh and interesting, and I truly can't wait to see what she will come up with next. If this book is any indication of what's in store then we are in for a treat! My thanks to the publisher for providing me with this review copy.

Lancaster has finally hit her stride as a fiction author

Lancaster has finally gotten the hang of fiction writing. Her other novels are not bad, but more hit and miss (loved "Here I Go Again" but didn't care for "Twisted Sisters"), but she's finally found her footing.

At first I was thinking, "Why do these people trash hotels? What's wrong with them?" As the story unfolds, you find out. I won't spoil it here though. The story is told in alternating first person of Kitty and Jack. Kitty is the uber mom and Jack is a fearless war reporter. Early on, they are sort of hard to like. Kitty is that terrifying alpha mother who judges everyone and Jack is the smug intellectual. However, these two work together and uncover some mysteries along the way and break through each other's tough exterior. These characters complement each other well and I wanted to be buddies with them. The secondary characters are also vivid and brought to life. Loved the banter with Jack's brothers and the funny scenes of Ashley helping Kitty and Jack get hoochied up for the recon at the bar. However, nit pick, I don't know what kind of c-section scar Kitty has, but I don't see how a body shot would pool up in it. Modern c-sections are not the old school top to bottom ones. Mine was small, well below the belly button, and left to right. Anyway, there's also lot of "Top Gun" quoting that is charming and funny. The story behind Jack's mom surprised me.

Anyone who has read JL's memoirs, you'll know she's a big animal lover and there are animal cameos of Jack's brother Bobby's three cats (maybe based on Lancaster's 'Thundercats'?): Bode Meowler, Jean Claude van Kitty and Tomba Cat.

I listened to this on audio and the narrators are fabulous.

About the Author
Jack LEGRAND is Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Nantes since 1988. He is specialist in transport phenomena and mixing in processes and (photo) bioreactors. He has ca 215 publications in international journals and is co-author of 16 patents. He is Director of the Joined Research Unit (UMR), constituted by about 200 people, GEPEA (Process Engineering for Energy, Environment and Food) between CNRS, University of Nantes, ONIRIS and School of Mines of Nantes. Since 2009, he is co-coordinator of the thematic group “Biomass for Energy” of the French Alliance for the Research Coordination for Energy (ANCRE). Member since 2010 of the European Science Foundation in the EUROCORES (EUROpean COllaborative RESearch) programme EuroSolarFuels; Molecular Science for a Conceptual Transition from Fossil to Solar Fuels. Since 2014, he is the CNRS representative in the Joint Programme Bioenergy of the European Energy Research Alliance for Bioenergy. Member of the board of the French Society of Chemical Engineering and of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
He works on study of the fundamental problems dealing with transfer phenomena in mass/heat exchangers (reactors, mixers) by using the methodology of Chemical Engineering. Studies are related to mixing and bioreactors, particularly the emulsion processing, microencapsulation processes, the centrifugal partition chromatography. The last aspect of his research deals with the photobiochemical engineering. The objective is to apply the chemical engineering concepts to the valorisation of photosynthetic microorganisms (cyanobacteria, microalgae) with the study of the different unit operations, from the culture systems (photobioreactors) to extraction of molecules of interest. This integrated approach is necessary for mass production of microalgae for bioenergy production (3rd generation of biofuels). One essential element is the conception and the modelling of intensified solar photobioreactors. In the laboratory, we have open this year a R&D facility, named AlgoSolis, to study the industrial production of microalgae in real conditions. The goal is to study the scale-up of the photobioreactors, including the solar problematic, and to optimise the operating contitions and the production management. The last concept developed in the lab is the algorefinery concept for the complete valorisation of microalgae. It means that you have to define the process scheme in order to optimise the valorisation of the different fractions of microalgae, lipids for biofuels, pigments, polysaccharides and proteins.

An Experiential, Exhilerating Positive Pychology Treasure!

Bottom line? I LOVED this interactively brilliant positive psychology workbook (actually, it is so much fun, it's more like a "playbook"!). It is a book about you and the stories you tell yourself about who you think you are. How is that for intrigue? But get ready for some surprising insights. Your life may well welcomed re-writes as Tarragona helps you pan for more personal gold!

I read it twice. The first time, I took scads of resource notes for my coaching clients. The second time, I enjoyed my own totally personalized journey answering the fascinating, curious exercises. Tarragona's skillful guidance gave me a magnifying glass to focus on my own life. To track down the stories I have written for myself. What bubbled up? Lots of "Aha!" moments that surprised me. There were times I stopped dead in my tracks. This creative book gifted me with the luxury of a trip down memory lane. And how my life history, positive and negative, made deep grateful groves and rotten ruts into my soul. And precisely how I could get unstuck in some of my stories' muck.

For example, if you tell yourself you are impatient, you are! You accept that. Your reality, when you start to focus on looking at yourself in a new way, helps you challenge this previously held belief. Tarragona directs your change course: For several days, count all the times you were, indeed, truly patient. Write down this new information. Writing helps you seal new learning. You may begin to recognize and appreciate your patience. This re-writes a positive new chapter of self-regulation. Terrific!

This is a powerful book. What you tell yourself creates problems or helps you build positive solutions. Tarragona enlightens with genuinely thought-provoking examples how you can joyfully re-write your life scripts. Results? You garner glee via your new positivity!

Wow!!! A treasure trove.

I cannot begin to express the amazement I felt reading and working on this jewel of a book. Tarragona certainly masters her subject and is blessed with a pen that makes it not only a pleasurable learning experience but a joy to work on the creative exercises. As a practicing therapist I admire her capacity to sinthecise the hundreds of hours of studying she has done into not only an easy but very pleasurable and enriching journey.
I feel enriched and improved personally and this book has become an indispensable companion in my practice as a therapist.

I truly recommend this book. The author is very clear and specific about issues that may bother all of us, but somehow is tailored to your needs, your life, your history.

Really easy to read, I read it twice and it helped me very much. For all that you get out of this book the price is a bargain.

Winner of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for the remarkable efforts begun 30 years earlier, and which continue to this day, agriculturalist Norman Borlaug most recently joined Jimmy Carter working in Africa and in recent years tackled successful projects in China. But his earliest claim to fame was his painstaking fieldwork in Mexico during the 1940s, when the prairie-raised Iowan developed strains of disease-resistant wheat, training local scientists to spread his breakthrough methods to other countries. Working over the years with the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, he was later responsible for averting famine in Pakistan and India, where hope for feeding their huge populations was almost nonexistent; characteristically, Borlaug maintained his sense of humility and wonder throughout: "The enthusiasm everywhere bordered on mania. I have never seen anywhere in agriculture such euphoria...." Author Hesser, an old friend and colleague of Borlaug, is well versed in the food production revolution that Borlaug helped create (encompassing wheat, rice and maize, and still branching out), and an able writer whose direct voice evokes the Midwest spirit of its subject.

Dr. Borlang was the 1970 recipient of the Nobel Peace Price. This was awarded for his work in saving the lives of more people - hundreds of millions, perhaps over a billion - from starvation than any person in history.

He, as much as any other individual deserves the title, The Father of the Green Revolution. In the late 1960s, most experts said that global famines in which billions would die would soon occur. Biologist Paul R. Ehrlich wrote in his 1968 bestseller The Population Bomb, 'The battle to feed all of humanity is over... In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.' Ehrlich also said, 'I have yet to meet anyone familiar with the situation who thinks India will be self-sufficient in food by 1971,' and 'India couldn't possibly feed two hundred million more people by 1980.'

Thanks to Dr. Borlaug, Paul Erlich was wrong.

Note that this doesn not mean that the problems are over. The Green Revolution plants take more water, more fertilizer (made from oil) than the older plants. There is an ongoing debate about biotechnology and food supplies. And of course, population growth cannot continue forever. But without Dr. Borlaug there would have been a lot more dying. And besides this just might sound like Paul Erlich.

Dr. Borlaug (now 91) lived a life filled with satisfaction, awards, and the knowledge that he has helped to feed millions.

Norman Borlaug's life, written by Leon Hesser, is more than magnanimous. It is impressively humble.
Hesser's remarkable, well-written book, is a wonderful story of the simple life of an Iowa farm boy whose extraordinary determination led him on a lifelong journey to feed a starving world. A young Norman Borlaug, scarred by the effects of the Great Depression witnessed, first hand, how food changes peoples lives.

The Man Who Fed The World is an inspiring book of one man's hope, vision, and the intestinal fortitude to relentlessly pursue his goal to relieve human suffering. And for the millions of the world's starving who were unable to personally express their gratitude Norma Borlaug, on October 20, 1970, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The book was great, it was exactly what I was looking for. The only bad thing about it was that there were about 10 pages that were extra my book went from page 1-85 and then it had pages 73-85 again and then the rest of the book was fine. I wonder who is missing those pages.
