About the Author
Peter Pritchard has been an executive recruiter by profession for over twenty years and has concurrently been a servant-leader in the church as a deacon, elder, and associate pastor. Since coming to the faith at age fourteen, he has always had a burden for bringing others to a personal relationship with Christ. In 1999 he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio and was ordained to the ministry the following morning. He and his wife, Junie, were married in 1981 and have four children.

every man should read this!

I picked up this book at a book fair and it has changed my life. I think every man needs to have this as a daily sharpening of our sword to fight against the daily challenges we face as men. Even the greatest men in the bible struggled with women, and you are not any different. I will be purchasing a few more to pass out to christian brothers and non christian friends. God Bless you with the power to "flee" from the temptations all around us.

Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning was allegedly compiled by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) to diseminate information on the principles behind and importance of school library media programs (school libraries to the unitiated) to not only library media specialists (LMSs) but also teachers, administrators and other stakeholders in the school community.

While I can see the value of this book as a resource, I cannot imagine anyone reading it who is not specifically assigned (forced) to or already in training to become a LMS (or at least a children's librarian).

The book begins by explaining the vision behind the ideal school library media program and learning standards that should be used as part of any LMC curriculum. Subsequent chapters discuss how to build collaborative relationships to foster authentic learning and make an LMP an integral part of a school experience, learning and teaching, information access and delivery, program administration, and how to connect to the learning community.

The book also has appendixes on assessment, goals for student learning, and copies of various statements and policies from ALA. There are other appendixes, but since the book was last revised in 1998 some of the information is not extremely relevant anymore.

The book is basically a series of stated principles on each topic and then sub-topics thoroughly explaining each principle. On one hand it was disheartening that the text was so dry and dense. On the other, it was comforting to see that there is not really that much to being an LMS since it all fits into a thin volume and seems to come down to collaboration at all points.

Information Power is hard to get through because of the repetition and disjointed nature of the text. Nonetheless, it does really tell everything you need to know about an LMC. I found that the best way to read it in its entirety was to just tell myself to read a chapter a day until I was done. The appendix compilingALA policies was also especially useful. I can't see many readers picking this volume up for idle reading. But I can see it being a valuable resource in that office you'll have when you finally become a school library media specialist.

This book was required for two courses that I was taking. It explains the information about library media centers in pretty clear detail, but never actually describes where the idea of Information Power comes from, so I was lost a majority of the time. It was produced by the American Library Association, so I feel that the information is needed for anyone beginning a career in that field.

About the Author
Wim Westera is full professor of digital media at the Open University of the Netherlands. He holds a PhD in physics (Utrecht University). After having been trained as an academic film and TV producer at the BBC, he specialized in media production and created dozens of informative TV programs and documentaries. Since the nineties, he has been involved as a researcher and practitioner in educational simulation and multimedia and technology-enhanced learning. Through his unique voice in columns and blogs, he became a renowned opinion leader in the domain of digital media, both at a national and an international level. The book The Digital Age is a derivative of his long-standing professional involvement in media research and development. His main motive for writing this book has been to enable readers to enhance their digital media literacy and remain in control of the media they use. Bought the kindle edition of this book for a research paper. Really appreciated the highlighting and notes capability. Some of the historical information was slow going, but there were many good insights. If you like this book, you might also like "The Techno-Human Condition" which has a little more humor.

Etchison does Carpenter film justice.

Most film novelizations are simply the script put into narrative form and offer little of interest outside of a few scenes either cut from the movie or presented in a slightly different context. Dennis Etchison avoided that trap and created a fully realized adaptation of John Carpenter's The Fog. While the trouble plagued movie had its weak points, it is quite obvious Etchison worked hard to fix them, developing much needed back story and expansion of Carpenter's concepts and multiple plots. The result is a wonderful companion piece to the film that enriches the viewing experience after reading, much like Orson Scott Card's work on The Abyss. Recommended for both Carpenter fans and ghost story addicts.

Not a bad little book. Short, moves pretty fast with some well written tension. Is it better than the movie? No. It is more or less what you see in the movie with the exception of the dead guy walking in the hospital, which is not in the book, the back story of Stevie Wayne, which is in the book and thats about it. The character Nick is awesome in the book, well written, strong, a real mans man if you know what I mean. I find the movie better because I think the actors make it great. The setting, music score, the ghost pirates, and of course the Fog and it is just a pretty well put togeter film. The book by its self is a decent ghost story. It will not scare you I don't believe and there is no real literary significance to the story. Perhaps it would have been better if I had never seen the movie. But I really did like the Nick character, just down right balls to the wall man of action that seemed to be so believeable. So thats my take on the book anyways.
